The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, known as the "Voice of American Business" in China, is the largest and fastest growing American Chamber in the Asia Pacific region. Founded in 1915, AmCham Shanghai was the third American Chamber established outside the United States. As a non-profit, non-partisan business organization, AmCham Shanghai is committed to the principals of free trade, open markets, private enterprise and the unrestricted flow of information.

Website - The AmCham Shanghai website (www.amcham-shanghai.org), viewed by 20,000 individual viewers monthly, is the number-one source of information on American business in Shanghai. The site serves as an online hub for AmCham's 3,700 members and provides vital information to non-members worldwide with interests in business in Shanghai.

Insight business magazine - Written with busy China executives in mind, AmCham Shanghai's monthly magazine covers China business news and trends, industry-specific issues and economic analysis. Insight is delivered direct to all Chamber members, while an additional 1,700 copies are sent to Shanghai-based five-star hotels, airlines and business associations.

Membership Directory - This comprehensive 400-page business resource sits on the desktops of AmCham Shanghai members all year long. The directory includes listings (in English and Chinese) of all AmCham member companies and individuals, a Business Resources section with useful business associations and government entities, key economic data for China and Shanghai and a Living Resources section with data on airlines, schools, hotels and other services.

White Paper - Written in conjunction with AmCham-China (Beijing) and AmCham South China, the annual White Paper on American Business in China serves as a report on the state of the business environment for U.S. businesses in China. The report also covers industry-specific issues ranging from banking to logistics. The White Paper is distributed to policymakers in the Chinese government and the U.S. government.

China Business Report - The China Business Report compiles results from the largest and most comprehensive survey of AmCham member companies in China and provides insights into the current business environment for U.S. companies in China. The survey covers a wide range of business issues, from profitability in China to inadequate intellectual property rights enforcement and fierce competition for skilled management personnel.

The China Manufacturing Competitiveness 2007-2008 study offers unique insights into how manufacturers can remain competitive in China amidst growing domestic and global competition. The study, jointly conducted by AmCham Shanghai and Booz Allen Hamilton, presents the results of survey work, on-site visits and in-depth interviews with members of AmCham Shanghai’s Manufacturers’ Business Council.

Events - The Chamber's 250-plus events per year deliver invaluable information directly from our expert speakers. Recent VIP guest speakers have included former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Former Deputy Secretary of State and Intelligence Director, Ambassador John Negroponte, Under Secretary for Business and Industry Daniel Hill and Representatives and Co-Chairs of the U.S. China Working Group Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Rick Larsen (D-WA).

Committees - AmCham Shanghai's 22 committees are intrinsic to the Chamber's mission of promoting a healthy business environment for U.S. companies operating in China. Committees are driven by the needs and interests of the AmCham membership and thrive on the voluntary participation of their members. They provide a forum for members with similar interests to network and discuss relevant issues of concern.

Conferences - The Chamber annually hosts a series of large-scale conferences, including the HR Conference, Manufacturers' Business Council Conference, Corporate Social Responsibility Conference and Education & Training Conference.

Compensation and Benefits Reports - AmCham Shanghai cooperates with Hewitt Associates to offer detailed salary and benefits information in the annual Employee Total Compensation and Benefits Report in China.

Orientation China Guidebook - The Orientation China Guidebook offers detailed market-entry information and advice for foreign companies entering or expanding into China. Industry experts from leading companies address the basics of setting up a company, such as assessing your company's China-readiness, navigating China's quickly changing legal environment, understanding taxes in China and coping with the market's talent shortage.

Media Information & Registration:

For events open to the media, a limited number of press passes will be allowed for the event. To reserve a place, register your attendance and your media credentials in advance.
Those requesting media registration should be currently employed by a registered publication or news organization; freelance writers will also be considered (may be subject to by-lined article in last six months).
Registered media professionals will receive regular press releases and invitations to select events in your areas of interest and to periodic media briefings.

  • Articles written post-event should accredit AmCham Shanghai as the organizer
  • We ask that you reference the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai in any articles written about or relating to the conference or event, and to notify us of any articles you publish related to the event.
  • Press attending may be required to occupy seats provided at the rear of the venue if necessary
