AmCham Shanghai announces 2009 CSR Award Winners
Coca-Cola, Honeywell and Arc8x Design recognized at Fifth Annual AmCham Shanghai CSR Conference and Awards Ceremony

SHANGHAI, November 19 -- The American Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai) announced the 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award winners today at its Fifth Annual CSR Conference and Awards Ceremony at the Renaissance Shanghai Zhongshan Park Hotel.
Along with presenting the CSR Award to Coca-Cola for outstanding CSR programs, AmCham Shanghai recognized collaborative CSR programs created through partnerships between companies and non-profit organizations. This year the Chamber was pleased to announce a new award category; the CSR Practitioner Award which commends an outstanding individual who is dedicated to furthering social responsibility in the workplace and to building ties between an enterprise and the community that it serves.
AmCham Shanghai 2009 CSR Awards Winners are: • CSR Award: Coca-Cola (China) Beverages Ltd. • Partnership Award: Honeywell (China) Co., Ltd. & Safe Kids China • CSR Award for Small Business: Arc8x Design • CSR Practitioner Award: Diana Tsui, CSR Director, KPMG China
The 2009 winners were selected from a strong field of 54 nominations that offered best practices across the range of CSR focus areas. The award winners this year were judged according to rigorous criteria developed with assistance from RepuTex, a Social Responsibility Index rating company. Nominees were judged based on achievements in CSR strategy, corporate governance, environmental impact, social impact and workplace practices.
The AmCham Shanghai CSR Committee Chair Victoria Moy, congratulated the award winners and noted, “By recognizing these outstanding programs and individuals, AmCham Shanghai and its CSR Committee aim to acknowledge their efforts and provide models for other organizations as they plan their own CSR programs. We hope these award-winning programs honored today will inspire other companies and increase awareness of the power of CSR partnerships in the community.”

First place winner this year, Coca-Cola (China) Beverages Ltd. impressed judges with how its China corporate headquarters could have such a far reaching effect on projects throughout the country. Their long term approach to CSR, with an established and dedicated implementation and follow-up set a great example for other CSR Practitioners. “CSR plays an integral role at Coca-Cola and we are extremely honored to be recognized by AmCham Shanghai,” stated Ms. Brenda Lee, VP of Coca-Cola (China) Beverages Ltd. Over 5 years, this partnership program has impacted nearly 500,000 students and families through 575 primary schools in 7 cities across China. In addition to teaching new safety concepts to Chinese students, the program focuses on behavioral changes and on parents and children learning household risks together. Honeywell’s safety aspects from its role in manufacturing industry linked perfectly with Safe Kids mission of spreading safety awareness among children.

Arc8X is an SME that, despite its small size and limited resources, has made environmental and social responsibility a core part of its business practices. Their CSR efforts run parallel to their company mission, making CSR a part of what they are, said this year’s awards panel.

The CSR Practitioner Award was presented to Ms. Diana Tsui, CSR Director at KMPG China. CSR Award judges sited Ms. Tsui’s demonstration of a clear corporate vision and strategy in developing KPMG’s CSR mandate and a well defined structure that provides measureable guidelines for leadership, management, initiative and innovation.
