SHANGHAI, November 19 -- The American Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai) announced the 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award winners today at its Fifth Annual CSR Conference and Awards Ceremony at the Renaissance Shanghai Zhongshan Park Hotel.
Themed CSR for Any Economy - Solutions for Businesses of Every Size, this year’s conference addressed the challenges of starting up socially responsible programs. Keynote speaker, Ernst Coppens, Chief Financial Officer of Bayer China, discussed how his organization’s corporate social responsibility programs not only benefit the communities they serve in China but create long-term value for its business and set it apart from competitors. Mr. Coppens noted that Bayer’s CSR program builds its corporate reputation, improves employee recruitment and retention, and supports better relations with key stakeholders in government, local communities, clients and suppliers, and among civil society leaders in China and abroad.
Coca-Cola, Intel China, Bayer and Dow Corning participated in a senior executive panel on how to best communicate CSR issues to senior management and make them a part of company strategy. Interactive workshops, moderated by CSR professionals, took place throughout the afternoon and provided attendees an opportunity to engage directly with leaders in the CSR field.
Johnson & Johnson, Hands on Shanghai, Junior Achievement and B&L Engineering shared their experiences on the challenges of running volunteer initiatives in organizations of all sizes and took questions from the audience.
