Medical Mission Sponsor
Since 1991, Operation Smile has been treating children and training medical professionals in China. Operation Smile conducts 6 international medical missions to China each year. During these missions international medical volunteers, including plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, dentists, speech therapists and nurses, partner with their Chinese colleagues to provide free reconstructive surgery to children. We also provide medical supplies for Operation Smile Chinese medical volunteers to carry out free reconstructive surgery on a year round basis. Operation Smile's medical missions depend on funding from our sponsors. Employees of our corporate sponsors have the opportunity to participate in our medical missions by assisting with medical records, playing with children while they wait for their surgeries, distributing gifts to patients and their families and serving as translators. Through employee involvement on our medical missions, employees experience giving back to the community and changing the life of a child.

Shanghai Second Medical University, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital & Operation Smile Education & Research Partnership Sponsor
Operation Smile, the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital and the Shanghai Second Medical University entered into an education exchange agreement in the spring of 2002. The successful goals of this partnership will 1) increase the capabilities for the treatment of facial deformity throughout China 2) provide humanitarian opportunities for Chinese physicians 3) promote self-sufficiency for training of clinicians and treatment of children in China suffering from facial deformity and 4) refine and improve the medical practice related to all facets of pediatric reconstructive surgery through outcomes-based research. We seek sponsorship for education and research programs to be implemented through this partnership.

Mobile Unit Sponsor
Operation Smile seeks sponsors of mobile unit clinics that will enable us to reach and treat more children throughout China. Every clinic vehicle will travel from city to city and village to village for 40 weeks of a year. The clinic will stop once every week at a selected site to provide basic medical education and medical service to the locality. Cleft lip and palate repairs will be performed, along with orthodontic procedures, speech therapy and screening for Operation Smile candidates. Some patients who are unable to be performed in the Mobile Clinics will be referred to the Operation Smile Network Hospitals to get treatment. It is estimated that 2,000 children per mobile unit clinic will be treated each year.

Sponsor a Chinese Medical Professional for Fellowship or Education Exchange
Operation Smile provides two-year, full-clinical fellowships in craniofacial/micro-surgery for qualified candidates from mission countries. Fellowship programs include extensive training in clinical, leadership and cross-cultural skills. Fellows work on an average of 395 patient surgeries per year. Operation Smile partners with teaching institutions in the United States to provide team training in mission countries through multiple-exchange education programs. The program, which began in May, 1998, has provided training for six health care professionals from China who have received training at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and the College of Nursing at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. Operation Smile provides health care professionals with intensive education and training during medical education conferences. The annual Physicians’ Training Program (PTP) brings surgeons and health care professionals from Operation Smile’s mission countries to Norfolk, Va., for two weeks of clinical and leadership training. Since 1987, more than 400 health care professionals from around the world have attended PTP.
