The Smile Train [Medical\Healthcare] |
| |
| |
The Smile Train is an international charity dedicated to helping children suffering from cleft lip and palate. Since 1999, we have funded cleft surgeries for over 80,000 indigent children in 51 countries. Through free training and education, The Smile Train empowers local doctors in developing countries to help the children of their own communities.
In China, our partner, China Charity Federation (CCF), has identified indigent children with cleft anomalies to receive treatment at one of the 106 Smile Train partner hospitals located throughout the country. The Smile Train established a Chinese Medical Advisory Committee to monitor the safety and quality of all Smile Train sponsored surgeries. To date, The Smile Train has funded cleft surgeries for over 50,000 children. Additionally, nearly 2000 medical professionals have been trained. |

 | Provide free cleft surgery for a desperate child |
| Cleft lip and palate is the number one birth defect in China. Every year, 40-50 thousand children are born with cleft lip and palate. Tragically, seventy percent of babies born with this deformity will never receive treatment.
Since 1999, The Smile Train has developed 106 partner hospitals in the poorest provinces in China. To date, over 50,000 surgeries have been sponsored. This is a significant accomplishment, but it is clear that more work needs to be done. Next year, The Smile Train will provide free cleft surgeries to 18,000 children in China and change their lives forever. The support of individual, corporate and foundation donors will allow The Smile Train to reach this goal.
For every $250 received, The Smile Train is able to provide free cleft surgery to a desperate child who would otherwise never receive it. 100% of all donations go towards activities that directly impact children, 0% goes toward overhead. All non-program expenses such as overhead and fundraising are paid for with start up grants from The Smile Train's founding supporters. Although it takes as little as 45 minutes, this cleft surgery has an impact that lasts a lifetime.
